Fragments of pottery excavated by Soulat et al [2025]<\/p><\/div>The islands of the southwest Indian Ocean, Seychelles, Rodrigues, R\u00e9union and Mauritius have all been extensively searched by generations of treasure hunters, a practice which continues to this day. However, the likeliest site of treasure is not on the land at all, but offshore, where lie the wrecks of hundreds of ships that have perished on the treacherous reefs and sandbanks of the South West Indian Ocean islands. Recent offshore surveys by marine archeologists are yielding exciting discoveries, especially for all those interested in the La Buse story. For example, fragments of pottery bearing a coat of arms which bears a remarkable similarity to that of the Luis de Meneses family indicate that this was probably the dinner service of the Viceroy of Goa, the Count of Ericeira, shipped on board the Nossa and captured by the pirates \u2026<\/p>\n
